Martin Truex Jr. - coming off of a very good race at Richmond International Raceway - is heading to one of his favorite tracks, and barring any unforeseen difficulties, should have a really good day on Saturday.
This will be Martin's 5th race at Darlington Raceway. He has never finished lower than 14th, with his best finish coming last year when he finished in 6th place after leading 61 laps. Martin said they were in a great position to win the race, but were hurt by poor pit strategy.
That will not happen this week as Crew Chief Pat Tryson leads one of the best units in the business. Twice already this year they have earned the Tissot award (Fastest Pit times), and once the Moog award (largest lap speed increase). Last week at Richmond they took a car described as "Horrible" and, after some adjustment, finished 7th.
Martin has always been good on intermediate tracks, with his only Sprint Cup win coming at Dover. He also has 10 top fives and 32 top tens.
