MMA News: Shine Fights CEO Devin Price Dismisses Don King Threat
Despite demands from Don King Productions to “cease and desist” promoting Ricardo Mayorga, Shine Fights Promotions CEO Devin Price is assuring fight fans that the May 15th MMA event “WORLDS COLLIDE: MAYORGA VS. THOMAS” will go forward “without a doubt.”
Price also added in a recent press release, “Shine Fights has a valid and exclusive promotional contract with Ricardo Mayorga for mixed martial arts. We are pleased to offer both MMA fans and boxing fans a great night of MMA action on Saturday, May 15th.”
“When we announced this fight, I said that we think Mayorga’s fans are just that, his fans, and that they will follow him to fight in MMA,” said Price. “Our target is to convert many boxing fans into fans of both sports. King is Mayorga's boxing promoter. We are his MMA promoter.”
The Crown Coliseum in Fayetteville, NC will host "Worlds Collide," which will also be broadcasted live on PPV, beginning at 6:00 PM PT/9:00 PM ET.
This will be the upstart organization's third event which will feature former boxing champ Ricardo Mayorga's MMA debut against UFC veteran Din Thomas.
"I conquered the world in the boxing ring all the while I was puffing cigarettes and drinking beer," Mayorga said in a previous press release.
"I won three world title belts and I stood toe-to-toe with so many legends, as I am a force of nature. Now I will shock the MMA fans, and I know so many of my fans from boxing will follow me as I expand my repertoire. They can't deny me in MMA and I will destroy Din Thomas. I am going to smash him the way I smashed all the big superstars of boxing. To me, a fight is a fight in a ring, in a cage, or on the street."
For Din Thomas, like Randy Couture when he takes on James Toney, he holds the honor of defending the honor of mixed martial arts against a great boxer past his prime.
"I respect what Ricardo has done in boxing," Thomas said. "He fooled many opponents with that smoking and drinking shtick but he won't fool me. I train night and day and I know he works hard also. But I will send him back to boxing, crawling back to boxing. He is about to get a violent education about the skills he needs for MMA, and they are skills that an old dog like Mayorga cannot learn."
If you want to see these two get it on, the suggested retail price for this MMA showdown is $29.95
