Is Orlando Jordan's New Bisexual Gimmick Going to Work in TNA?
A few weeks back Orlando Jordan began portraying a new character that is being considered one of the more controversial characters in recent history.
His new charcater is that of a bisexual male wrestler.ย He began the character by simply being escorted to the ring one night by his real life boyfriend and a female valet.ย Even though it was edited out of TV, he kissed both at the top of the ramp.
Many people know by now that Orlando Jordan is in fact bisexual in real life. He has made no effort to hide this as he does not see it as a bad thing, and I applaud him for that.ย In a world dominated by alpha male types Orlando decided to be himself, and there is no better message to send to fans.
However, his new character may not be considered by some to be a good representation of a bisexual man.ย ย I have met Jordan at a live event and he was nothing like his new character, which is to be expectedโDustin Rhodes is not like Golddust either.
So, sure, everyone is different, and this may all be an act, but I am just wondering how the bisexual community feels about this new portrayel of their culture on TV.ย
Jordan has been contraversial with this new character, even going as far as to have lotion dripped on him to represent semenโat least that's what it seemed to represent.
So why push the envelope so far?ย
I'm sure that his character will get at least a few people to watch TNA who haven't in the past, but will the strangeness of his character turn others away?
His new style is not a representation of bisexuality, it is his own unique style.ย He is simply doing what he is told, and maybe even what he wants to do, but that does not mean he won't creep some fans out with his odd behavior.
I remember how I felt when Golddust first started wrestling, he made a lot of people uncomfortable by pushing people's homophobia out into the open, and there were even wrestlers in the locker room who refused to wrestle him at first.
Dustin (Golddust) is not gay in real life, nor is he bisexual, but his character created controversy and it ultimately led to him getting a push.
Orlando Jordan on the other hand seems to have a different agenda, and I am still not quite sure what that agenda may be.ย All I know is that his O-zone segment on last night's iMPACT was a lot less weird than his previous appearances have been.
Jordan is a talented wrestler with a lot of potential to go far in TNA, I just hope this new style he is putting forward does not hurt his chances at a bright future.
What do you guys think of Jordan's new character?
