AAA Insurance NHRA Midwest Nationals Results

The Sarge Tony Schumacher and the US Army Team took the victory in Top Fuel Sunday at the AAA Insurance NHRA Midwest Nationals from St Louis. Schumacher up against Doug Kalitta in the final round ran a 3.849 @ 317.87 mph to a losing 4.041 @ 313.07 mph by Doug Kalitta. Schumacher was first off the line at a 0.49. Larry Dixon is now the point leader as the #1 qualifier Cory McClenathan went out in round one.

Warren Johnson snapped a long winless streak Sunday, scoring the victory in Pro Stock over Jeg Coughlin. Jeg had problems at the line and Johnson made a single pass to take the victory in St Louis, his 97th career win and first since Phoenix in 2006. Mike Edwards had trouble in the semi finals and did'nt get to run the round and Johnson advanced to the final, he still has the point lead going into Atlanta. Rodger Brogdon had a scary incident in the first round of Pro Stock Sunday. Brogdon crashed at the top end of the race track got on his roof, hit the wall and the car caught fire. Brogdon was ok and will need a new car in Atlanta.

Robert Hight the defending Funny Car Champion took the AAA car to the win in the final round of Funny Car Sunday against "Fast Jack" Jack Beckman. Hight and Crew Cheif Jimmy Prock worked on the car all weekend and ran a pass in the final at 4.149 @ 304.25 mph to Beckman's 4.204 @ 296.44 mph. John Force is the point leader in Funny Car.

Finally Michael Phillips took the win in Pro Stock Motorcycle over LE Tonglet. Phillips ran a 6.926 @ 193.99 and had a great bike all weekend long. This was Phillips fourth career win and first since Memphis last fall. Hector Arana who went red Sunday along with alot of other Pro Stock Bike drivers does keep the point lead.

Atlanta Dragway is the next race on the schedule and a long schedule that will take off into summer starting in two weeks. Heres the look ahead of upcoming races.
