Mets-Dodgers: Mets Beat Dodgers 7-3, Finish Homestand 9-1

The Mets continued their hot streak with a 7-3 win against the Dodgers today behind some early offense and a strong pitching performance by John Maine. They have now won seven games in a row, and have wrapped up this homestand by winning nine out of 10 games. Not bad.

Be careful though, these Mets were clearly not as bad as they were early in the season, but they probably aren’t this good either.

• Alex Cora went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

• David Wright went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored.
• Ike Davis went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
• Jeff Francoeur went 1-for-4 with a double, a run scored, and two RBI.
• Rod Barajas went 0-for-2 with a run scored a a walk.
• Frank Catalanotto got his third hit of the season, a double.

Thoughts

• Like I said at the top, don’t let your expectations get out of whack after a week and a half of good baseball. The Mets are hot right now, but they’ll cool off. They won’t be as bad as they were early in the season though, not by a long shot.
• John Ely was making his major league debut today and the Mets took advantage, scoring five runs in just over six innings against the rookie.
• John Maine looked great today. He had command of his pitches and his pitch count was a little high, but in control.
• The bullpen was also in control showing no effects of being overworked yesterday. They did have to use Francisco Rodriguez today in a non-save situation though.
• David Wright passed Ed Kranepool for first place on the Mets all-time doubles list with 226 in his career.

Line of the Day

2-out RBI—A Pagan 2, A Cora, I Davis, J Francoeur. Second time in two games I have referenced this line. Another game with multiple two-out RBI and another win. Coincidence? I think not.
