UFC Presents Aldo vs. Faber: Ben Henderson & Donald Cerrone's Encore

Tom NgoApr 24, 2010

The last time these two hooked up, MMA fans were treated to 2009’s Fight of the Year . While most remakes never live up to the successes of their predecessors, WEC lightweight champ Ben Henderson and Donald Cerrone promise for an exciting show this Saturday at “WEC 48 : Aldo vs. Faber.”

“I expect another great fight and hopefully I’ll be able to end it this time, like I do with most of my fights,” Henderson said. “Call me crazy, but I’m ready for another 5Round war with Cerrone. Let’s have the exact same 5Round, hard, all-out war.

“I love that, I’m not going to lie. But at the end, I want to finish it. I don’t want it to go to a judges’ decision. I don’t want any controversy; I don’t want any ifs, ands or buts. I want to end it.”

“Smooth” has defeated the who’s who of the lightweight division since joining the WEC in January 2009. Henderson owns an impressive 11-1 record and was most recently seen unifying the strap against Jamie Varner at WEC 46 in January.

Cerrone is known just as much for his cowboy ways as he is for his bluntness. The 26-year-old has been telling everyone under the moon that he could take Henderson in a rematch; however, this time he’s not going to allow the judges to determine his fate, either.

“What’s different this time is that I know what he has,” Cerrone said of his nemesis. “He gave me everything he had last time. I know what I did wrong and what I need to fix. I feel like Ben can be finished and I’m ready to show the world that he can be put away.”

Although Henderson was able to squeak out a close unanimous decision victory in their initial meeting at WEC 43 this past October, he knows he’ll have to showcase a much better game this time around...because Cerrone definitely will.

The lightweights will serve as the co-main event inside Arco Arena in Sacramento, Calif. Saturday’s monumental show will mark the WEC’s first pay-per-view broadcast.
