2008 Dallas Cowboys projected 53 man roster and position battles

Dallas Cowboys

QB Tony Romo
QB Brad Johnson
QB Richard Bartel

Tony Romo is again the starter for the Cowboys with Brad Johnson holding down the no.2 job. OK, after 20 years ya finally got me. Who the hell is Richard Bartel?(No,wait a minute, I think I said the same thing about Romo!)
Fantasy outlook : Romo will be in the top 5 QB's drafted and is a nice starting QB for your fantasy squad. Keep an eye on Brad Johnson should anything happen to Romo.

RB Marion Barber
FB Deon Anderson
RB (R)Felix Jones
RB (R)Tashard Choice
RB Alonzo Coleman

With Julius Jones now in Seattle, Barber should torture opposing defenses as the starting RB. His combo of speed and power make him a nightmare for opposing defenders and should have Barber taken within the first 10 RB's this season. Rookie Felix Jones may be able to put up Jones like numbers in relief of Barber and could have a good season as well. Rookie Tashard Choice could give them 3 quality RB's and a nice rushing game for years to come. Alonzo Coleman will backup. FB Deon Anderson has proven to be a decent starting FB.
Fantasy outlook : Barber will be among the first 10 RB's chosen and likely among the first 20 overall. Felix Jones may be worth a late round pick if in need of RB help. Keep an eye on Tashard Choice should either Barber or Jones get hurt.

WR Terrell Owens
WR Patrick Crayton
WR Terry Glenn
WR Sam Hurd
WR Miles Austin

Owens is still one of the top 3 WR's in football. Crayton did a nice job filling in for Glenn last year and may just win the other starting WR job outright. Glenn is another year older and may be better off in the slot as the no.3 receiver. Sam Hurd and returner Miles Austin should battle it out to see who gets the 4th receiver spot.
Fantasy outlook : Owens may be a top 10 pick, or at least top 15. Crayton could be a nice pickup in the late rounds, but I don't trust Glenn at his age coming off an injury. Let someone else take a chance.

TE Jason Witten
TE (R)Martellus Bennett
TE Tony Curtis

Witten is still the starter and one of the top 5 TE's available. Rookie Martellus Bennett will likely be good enough to take over the no.2 TE with Tony Curtis coming in 3rd on the TE depth chart.
Fantasy outlook : Witten is a likely top 40 pick and should have another good season for the Cowboys.

C Andre Gurode
G/T Leonard Davis
G Kyle Kosier
T Marc Colombo
T Flozell Adams
G Corey Procter
G Adam Stenavich
T/G Doug Free
T Pat McQuistan
T James Marten

Andre Gurode has finally become a good starting C. Leonard Davis is a better G than he was a tackle and Kyle Kosier has proven to be a decent starter as well. Corey Procter will backup at both G and C. Adam Stenavich is still young and learning and will be competing against Joe Berger and Cory Lekkerker for a roster spot. Colombo is one of the better tackles in the league and Adams is even better. Free,Marten, and McQuistan will all be playing to see who will be the primary backup tackle.

LS L.P. Ladouceur
K Nick Folk

DE Marcus Spears
DE Chris Canty
DE Jason Hatcher
DE Stephen Bowen
DE (R)Darrell Robertson
DT Tank Johnson
DT Jay Ratliff
DT Remi Ayodele

Spears and Canty are 2 of the better DE's in the league. Jason Hatcher is a nice 3rd DE who can supply pressure. Stephen Bowen will have to battle rookie free agent Darrell Robertson for his place on the depth chart. Tank Johnson and Jay Ratliff will likely rotate at DT since the Cowboys will mostly use a 3-4 defense. Ayodele should be the main backup.

LB Demarcus Ware
LB Zach Thomas
LB Greg Ellis
LB Bradie James
LB Anthony Spencer
LB Kevin Burnett
LB Bobby Carpenter

Ware,Thomas,Ellis and James could arguably be the best linebacking corps in the league, which is saying alot when you look at the Steelers. Not only are all 4 among the best LB's in the NFL, but backups Anthony Spencer and Kevin Burnett also could see playing time, and you can bet LB Bobby Carpenter would likely see alot more time somewhere else as well.

CB Adam Jones
CB Terrence Newman
CB Anthony Henry
CB (R)Mike Jenkins
DB Courtney Brown
CB (R)Orlando Scandrick

Newman should be one of the best CB's in the league with Anthony Henry reclaiming his starting spot on the other side. Ex-Titan Pacman Jones is in camp but has not yet been cleared to play by the league, but could take over the starting job come opening day. That means rookie Mike Jenkins will likely man the dime back with 2nd year CB Courtney Brown likely shifting to safety and rookie Orlando Scandrick looking at a special teams role.

S Roy Williams
S Ken Hamlin
S Pat Watkins

Roy Williams is one of the best safeties in the league and fellow safety Ken Hamlin is not far behind. Pat Watkins is a good backup and could challenge for a role in the nickel or dime package. CB Courtney Brown should supply depth if needed.

P Mat McBriar

Fantasy picks : RB Marion Barber,WR Terrell Owens,QB Tony Romo,TE Jason Witten,RB Felix Jones,WR Patrick Crayton,RB Tashard Choice. Barber,Owens, and Romo will all likely be top 20 picks. Expect to see Witten gone by the top 45-50 with Felix Jones going in the later rounds along with Patrick Crayton. Choice may be a consideration late if Barber or Jones get hurt.
