Oakland Raiders: D-Line Or O-Line In Round 2?

Jimmy HalApr 23, 2010

Round One is now over and done with for the Oakland Raiders. They chose a player who may not have been their number one need, but should have an immediate impact.

Now the question looms: What to do in Round Two?

The Raiders still have a glaring need at Left Tackle. No matter who the Quarterback is, they need to be protected. This is a position that has haunted the Raiders for a little under a decade at this point.

Next is Defensive Tackle. I think we as fans finally see the talent the Raiders saw in Tommy Kelly, but also realize that he needs a bigger body next to him. Who we have on the roster at that current position won't cut it.

Why I say Left Tackle in Round Two:

Round two has always been considered the round that a team picks their need over the best player available, and the Raiders need a left tackle bad.

With an athletic specimen like Bruce Campbell still out there, I can't see the Raiders passing him up. Quite frankly, there is a part of me that does'nt want them to.

After Russell Okung, Trent Williams, and Bryan Bulaga, there are a group of Tackles fighting for fourth place: Bruce Campbell, Charles Brown, Vladimir Ducasse and Roger Saffold.

With Tom Cable giving up his Offensive Coordinator/Play-Calling duties, he can focus on the O-line even more, making sure that whoever we pick, will get quality coaching.

Why I say Defensive Tackle:

There is no doubt in my mind that MLB Rolando McClain will have an instant impact as a rookie. Rookie production being something the Raiders have been looking for. But the fact is he won't be able completley fix our run defense alone, at least not in year one.

Picking a defensive tackle makes McClain not only better, but makes things easier around him. Without a defensive tackle he falls to the same prey that Kirk Morrison did.

Another reason I go D-Tackle is because NT Terrance Cody is still on the board. If you can keep these two together, why not do it. That is instant chemistry that you don't have to worry about. Both in my opinion, are first round talents.

The last reason I say D-Tackle, is because Offensive Tackle this year is so deep. There are plenty of Tackle's in rounds 3-5 I would'nt mind starting for the Raiders on day one.

Those are my thoughts on round two. Where do you think the Raiders should go?
