Tim Tebow to Denver Broncos in 2010 NFL Draft: He's Got Mile High Hopes

Erik FrenzApr 22, 2010

The Denver Broncos selected Tim Tebow with the 25th overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, making him Denver's second pick in the first-round and the second quarterback taken off the board, with the other being Oklahoma QB Sam Bradford.

The talk about Tebow's landing spot can finally come to an end.

Now the question becomes, will he start? If so, when?

Quarterback wasn't exactly a position of need for the Broncos, with Kyle Orton still in the fold and the recent acquisition of Brady Quinn.

Nonetheless, he found a great home in Denver. He gets to learn under Josh McDaniels, who has had historic success with quarterbacks in the past. He engineered the offense during Tom Brady's 50-touchdown-pass extravaganza and took Matt Cassel, who hadn't started a game since high school, and made him a serviceable NFL quarterback.

The talent is certainly in place in Denver for him to succeed, with two gifted wide receivers in third-year player Eddie Royal and Tebow's fellow 2010 first-rounder Demaryius Thomas. Even still, he may not be expected to start right away with an offense that's still very young.

Buzz around the league was that Tim Tebow would go in the first round, despite most mock drafts putting him in the second round and mostly being regarded as a late-second or early-third round prospect.

But the Broncos saw something in Tebow that other teams didn't see, or just chose not to see. He has the heart of 11 men, and would probably carry them all to the end zone if he had to to win a ball game.

That's all he did at Florida: win ball games. The Denver Broncos surely hope he can do it again in the NFL.
