Breaking News: Steelers NOT Trading Ben Roethlisberger.

Nick SignorelliApr 22, 2010

According to Jason La Canfora of NFL Network , the Pittsburgh Steelers are not only not interested in trading Ben Roethlisberger, but they have not been shopping him to every team in the top 10, and first round, as previous reports have said.

Contrary to published reports, the Steelers never shopped Roethlisberger to teams all over the first round, according to a source with direct knowledge of the situation.

"That's ridiculous," the source said. "It was never even considered. It was never an option."

There were discussions over last weekend between the Steelers and Rams, but the Rams were not interested in Roethlisberger.

The only other discussions were with the Oakland Raiders, who hold the eighth pick in the draft, and according to La Canfora, no serious offer came from the Raiders.

Raiders officials called the Steelers to assess what it would take to land Roethlisberger, a two-time Super Bowl champion. The Steelers listened to the Raiders, according to the source, but the talks weren't substantial, haven't resumed and aren't expected to be opened again.

On a side note, I for one, could not be happier that the Steelers are sticking with Big Ben. There has been a lot of speculation on Roethlisberger being traded, and frankly, I hated it.

Ben is a one of a kind player, that fits the Steelers like a glove. There is no way that the Steelers would be a perennial playoff team without him on the roster, and trading him would set the Steelers back YEARS.

Everyone that is quick to jump on the DA report from the GBI, needs to realize that it is the accusers side of the story, and there is no reason that it should be given any more credibility than what Ben is saying.

KUDOS - Steelers for sticking with your guy, and not giving into the pressure of what a few of the complainers want.
