New NBA Free-Throw Rule Explained

Winning Five Titles This Year Could Be Extra Special for Kobe

Jess Matthew BeltranApr 22, 2010

On August 23, Kobe Bryant will be turning 32 and with 3 to 4 years to go Kobe might be contemplating of hanging up his jersey. But that never crossed Kobe’s mind right now. He already won 4 championships, a 12 time NBA All-star, a onetime MVP and the list goes on but he still has one goal to make and that is to win NBA championships ahead of Magic Johnson’s 5 and Michael Jordan’s 6 titles.
But it would be an uphill battle for the Lakers this time losing 4 out of their last 7 games of the season and barely won their first game against the eight seeded Oklahoma City Thunders. In game 1 Kobe shot only 6 out of his 19 field goal attempts and made only 7 free throws out of 12. Although he led the Lakers in scoring it was Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum’s dominance that gave the Lakers the win. He could have schooled Thabo Sefolosha and James Harden but his swollen right knee and broken index finger gave him enough trouble that he struggled most of the way in their first game.
Kobe never made his injuries an excuse instead he work his way to the gym and practice his arc without hurting much his index finger. It’s another challenge and another stage to shine. Game two came out with Kobe doing much of the damage with game high 39 points with 2 out of 5 shots in the three point area and missing only two out of his 15 free throws. It was never a question of competence it’s all about finding the right pieces to motivate Kobe Bryant and when people started to question his ability it only fuels his drive to strive harder and compete to the highest level.
If the Lakers will defend and win another championship this year it would be another breakthrough for Kobe Bryant. He could match Magic’s 5 titles and needs only one championship run to equal Jordan’s championship rings but neither Magic nor Jordan won a championship with a swollen ankle a sore right knee and a broken finger and Bryant might do it this year and it could be extra special going head to head with equally talented Lebron James…mouth watering.
