The NFL announced the 2010 season schedules last night. As expected, the Giants will play the first game at the new stadium in Week 1 while the Jets will play the following day at home on Monday Night Football. Also of note, all Week 17 games this season are divisional contests. The NFL is hoping this is a step toward teams playing meaningful games at the end of the season. Let's take a quick look through the local team schedules.

The New York Jets threw themselves into the spotlight last season and they will be once again. The Jets will play five primetime games this season, including three on Monday Night Football. The other two are a Sunday Night Football matchup and the Thanksgiving Night game. Their opponent for the Monday Night matchups are the Ravens and Minnesota at home, and a game at New England. The Sunday Night matchup is an away game against the Miami Dolphins while the Jets host the Bengals on Thanksgiving.

The 2010 season for the Jets very well could be defined by the first six games. The opener on Monday Night against the Baltimore Ravens will be a quick test. That game is followed by a home game against the Patriots, then they travel to Miami. Week 4 should be somewhat of a breather when they travel to Buffalo. The second Monday Night Football game is Week 5 at home against the Minnesota Vikings. A very tough game, especially if Brett Favre does decide to return. After that, the Jets travel to thin air to take on the Denver Broncos.

The Week 7 bye week will be much needed after those first six games. The easiest stretch of games has to be Weeks 9 through 11. During that span, the Jets play at Detriot, at Cleveland, and host the Houston Texans.

New York ends the season at home against the Buffalo Bills.

The Giants will be playing four primetime games this season, one of which is a Monday Night Football matchup. They also have three Sunday Night Football matchups. The schedule is a little awkward this season as the Giants will not face an NFC East opponent until Week 7.

Week 1 will be some what of a revenge game as the Giants host the Carolina Panthers who basically embarrased them late last season. We will also get to see Manning Bowl 2 as the Giants and Colts square off in one of the Sunday Night Football matchups.

Another interesting tidbit, the Giants and Cowboys will play each other twice in a span of four weeks.
