2010 SMCAA TOURNAMENT : SOUTHEAST REGION – SECOND ROUND

         #5 Georgia Tech 73, #37 Colgate 58

    Georgia Tech established a 12 point halftime lead, shot 53% on the night, and defeated Colgate 73-58 in a SMCAA Southeast 2nd round contest.  The Yellow Jackets had three players in double figures led by Derrick Favors and his 17 points.  Gani Lawal added 16 points and 8 rebounds and Iman Shumpert chipped in 11 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists in in the win.  Tech also out rebounded the Red Raiders by 11 on the night.
    Colgate got a great game from Kyle Roemer, who had a game high 24 points which included 4 three pointers.  Yaw Gyawu added 18 points in the loss.  Despite their two performances, the Red Raiders struggled shooting the ball, hitting only 35% of their shots.

        #12 Ohio 62, #21 Stony Brook 51

    Ohio got out to an 11 point halftime lead and was able to maintain it through the second half en route to a 62-51 win over Stony Brook in a 2nd round Southeast game.  The Bobcats had a tough game, shooting 40% from the field and making only 8 of 23 three point attempts.  But they did get good performances from Armon Bassett with 15 points and D.J. Cooper and his 10 points and 4 assists.
    The Seawolves got 14 points from Bryan Dougher and 12 points from Muhammad El-Amin in the loss.  Stony Brook had a rough night from the field as well.  They hit just 36% from the field, 30 % from three point range, and 47% from the free throw line.

        SOUTHEAST REGION 3RD ROUND: #12 Ohio vs. #5 Georgia Tech

        #13 Iona 69, #20 Cleveland State 61

    Iona made some key free throws down the stretch to clinch a 69-61 victory over Cleveland State in a Southeast 2nd round contest.  The Gaels finished 23-30 from the line on the night and hit 8 of 10 in the final 90 seconds of the game.  Alejo Rodriguez was the leading scorer for the Gaels with 15 points and went 5 of 8 from the line.  Jermel Jenkins added 10 points in the victory including 2 three pointers.
    The Vikings got 12 points apiece from Norris Cole and Jeremy Montgomery to lead the way.  Montgomery made 3 three pointers, but the rest of the team struggled, making just 5 of 21 on the night from beyond the arc.

        #4 Gonzaga 72, #29 Evansville 63

    Gonzaga shot 53% on the night and needed it to put away a feisty Evansville team, 72-63, in a Southeast 2nd round match-up.  The Bulldogs had three players in double figures, led by 15 points apiece from Elias Harris and Bol Kong.  Harris added 7 rebounds on the night.  Matt Bouldin was also in double figures for the Zags with 13 points.  Gonzaga was able to win the game despite shooting just 50% (13-26) from the free throw line.
    The Purple Aces were led by Denver Holmes and his 17 points.  Colt Ryan added 14 points in the loss.  Both players each hit 3 three pointers on the night.  Bryan Bouchie was the other Evansville player in double figures with 11 points and 8 rebounds of the bench.
