2010 SMCAA TOURNAMENT – EAST REGION – SECOND ROUND

       #3 Northern Iowa 84, #30 North Carolina-Wilmington 71

    Northern Iowa had four players score in double figures as they maintained a double digit lead in the second half and defeated North Carolina-Wilmington 84-71 in a SMCAA East 2nd round contest.  Adam Koch led the way for the Panthers with 18 points including 4 three pointers.  Jordan Eglseder added 16 points, Kwadzo Ahelegbe had 13 points and 7 assists and Johhny Moran chipped in 10 points and 11 rebounds in the victory.  UNI shot well from the field, hitting 55% of their shots.
    The Seahawks got 15 points and 5 assists from Chad Tomko while Ahmad Grant added 11 points in the loss.  They each had 3 three pointers on the night.

        #14 Bradley 54, #19 Western Carolina 47

    Bradley closed the game on a 12-4 run over the last 5:30 to turn a one point deficit into a 54-42 win over Western Carolina in a 2nd round East game.  Bradley shot only 37% on the night, but played great defense in the victory, holding the Catamounts to 33% from the field and just 3 of 20 from three point range.  The Braves were led by Andrew Warren and his 18 points while Taylor Brown scored 14 points and had 11 rebounds for BU.
    Western Carolina actually out rebounded Bradley 40-33, but their poor shooting is what cost them in the game.  They had no one score in double figures and were led by 8 points apiece from Brandon Giles, Richie Gordon, and Kendall Russell.  The Catamounts also committed 25 fouls on the night, sending Bradley to the line for 26 attempts.

        EAST REGION 3RD ROUND: #14 Bradley vs. #3 Northern Iowa

        #11 Portland 69, #22 Massachusetts 60

    Portland used a key 7-0 run over a four minute span of the second half to break open a tie game and go on to beat Massachusetts 69-60 in an East 2nd round match-up. With game tied at 50-50, T.J. Campbell hit a big three to start the run and the lead grew to seven with just 7:00 remaining.  Campbell ended up leading the Pilots with 17 points and 6 assists.  He also had 4 three pointers on the night.  Robin Smeulders was also in double figures with 16 points for Portland.
    The Minutemen got 14 points and 6 rebounds from Terrell Vinson and 13 points and 4 assists from Ricky Harris, but the Minutemen struggled shooting all night long.  They made just 35% of their shots and hit just 6 of 17 three point attempts.

        #6 Virginia Tech 85, #27 Mercer 63

    Virginia Tech scored 49 points in the first half and got out to an 18 point halftime lead in cruising to an 85-63 over Mercer in a 2nd round East blowout.  The Hokies shot 49% for the game and shot well from beyond the arc as well, hitting on 9 of 16 attempts.  Malcolm Delaney led Tech with 27 points and 6 assists.  Dorenzo Hudson also played well with 21 points on 8 of 13 shooting.  Jeff Allen added 19 points and 7 rebounds in the victory.
    The Bears got a good game from James Florence and his 23 points, including 4 three pointers.  Daniel Emerson chipped in 11 points and 13 rebounds in the loss.

        EAST REGION 3RD ROUND: #11 Portland vs. #6 Virginia Tech
