Cowboys Primed For a Super Bowl Run

  Forget the drunken owner and his bashing of his former coach,forget the playoff loss to the Vikings and lets for a minute look at the Cowboys and their hopes for the upcoming season. The Cowboys are a team on the verge of a very good 3-4 season window in which they should,and will,be super bowl contenders. The key positions are all filled with capable players,most are young and in their prime. The team also has the requisite number of experienced leaders who still have something left in the tank physically...think Keith Brooking. 

  From an offensive standpoint the Cowboys seem to hover between a dominant smashmouth running team and a quick strike,explosive pass oriented team. I think the best case scenario is obviously a good balance of both. However,I think for the Cowboys to bring home title number six it will take a very heavy dose of Choice,Jones and Barber. I have heard all the rumors concerning trading either Barber or Choice,but I feel that both will be Cowboys come September. 

  I personally feel that Tashard Choice is vastly underrated and should actually get the bulk of the carries this season. I love Marion Barber and he helped to spur the current Cowboy rebirth with tough,brutal and efficient running. That being said,I do think that he has lost a step due to his physical running style and the injuries that come with it. I think best case scenario would have Choice getting 15-20 carries per game,Felix with 10-12 and Barber taking over the role that Choice has played the last couple of seasons. Choice seems to have a little of both Jones and Barber in him. He can break the 40-50 yard run or he can lower the shoulder and get the tough yards when the defense is loading the box. 

  With a defense on the verge of being a dominant force,the Cowboys could cut down the number of passes and play smashmouth ball for 2-3 quarters which should then open things up for the passing game and big plays downfield. This would also help to eliminate some of the pressure to maybe add a reciever should Roy Williams fail to return to All-Pro form. Imagine a defense being pounded with Choice,Jones and Barber for 30-40 minutes thus forcing them to be on the field for long periods of time,then just when they are sucking oxygen the Cowboys start taking shots downfield with Austin,Crayton,Witten,Felix etc. That would be quite a nightmare for any defensive coordinator to be faced with. 

  When looking over the Cowboys roster,one notices that there are no glaring weaknesses,sure the Cowboys could use another solid safety,another steady offensive lineman maybe even another wide reciever but that would be luxury...not need. The Cowboys have the stars at the glamour positions and are above average at almost every position on both sides of the field. They have a very nice mixture of youth,experience,stars and role players that almost every serious title contender must have. 

  The Cowboys have the upcoming draft to add depth where needed and,if nothing more,add a few more capable special teams players that all coaches agree you can never have enough of. 

  Barring a catastrophic rash of injuries(like Dallas experienced during the 9-7 season),this version of the Cowboys should be in the thick of things come playoff time. The NFC East will always be a tough division and even the Redskins have improved by leaps and bounds. 

  As most Cowboy fans know,the Super Bowl will be held in the Cowboys new home. I have a feeling that the Boys just may be the first team to ever grab a ring while playing the big game in their home stadium.
