Welterweight Quarterfinal Bout

1st round – Dave Smith is the third man in the cage.  After a intense staredown, they are finally at it.  Thomas works his jab and hits, but is taken to the ground shortly after.  Askren is working from Thomas’ guard. 

Thomas catches Askren in a triangle choke but after a struggle, he gets out.  Askren is right back in Thomas’ guard but quickly moves to side mount.  Askren is attempting a D'Arce choke, but Thomas pulls out. 

Askren is on his feet now hitting with knees.  The action is back on the ground after a trip by Askren.  Askren works from side mount and then moves to north-south position.

Askren finishes the bout after the referee calls a stoppage from a choke.  Thomas argues the call but the referee’s decision is final.
