The 2010 Arena Football League betting season continues with its third week of action starting on Friday night. To kick off the seven-pack of games, the Orlando Predators (0-1, 0-1 ATS) will travel to Veterans Memorial Arena to tangle with their in-state rivals, the Jacksonville Sharks (1-1, 1-1 ATS) for the NFL Network’s weekly broadcast. This will be the first home game in the history of the Sharks. The team’s ownership is closely related to the Orlando ownership, as both principal owners are brothers. This will be a battle for first place in the Southeast Division, as Orlando sits only a half game behind the Sharks.

HC Pat O’Hara’s first game as a head coach in the AFL didn’t go according to plan last week. His defense, which was supposed to be an anchor of the team with several arena ball veterans, was simply miserable against Bossier City. The Battle Wings didn’t run a single drive with more than six plays in it, and they were only stopped once by the Predators. DBs Kenny McEntyre and Damon Mason, who were teammates in Orlando for years in the past, were both burned a number of times by QB Raymond Philyaw, who tossed nine touchdowns. QB Nick Hill had a decent AFL debut, going 36/46 for 381 yards and four TDs without throwing a pick. WR TT Toliver caught 16 passes for 195 yards and two TDs. The Predators rushed for six touchdowns on the day, three of which came from Hill. Orlando was defeated 73-67 as 3.5-point road favorites.

The Sharks looked to be in control of their Week 2 betting contest in Alabama on Friday night, but thanks to a 35-0 run that was keyed by a slew of onside kicks, they were defeated 63-49. QB Aaron Garcia looked fantastic in the first half, but threw two picks in the second stanza, including a 40-yard interception returned for a touchdown in the fourth quarter that gave the Vipers a lead they never would concede. Jacksonville committed 13 penalties for 89 yards a week after being flagged for 20 infractions. The Sharks also only had 11 first downs, but that was largely thanks to the fact that Alabama tried five straight onside kicks in the second half.

The Sharks opened up this week as four-point favorites, and have moved to (-5) at the publication of this article.
