Why is A.J. Pierzynski Being Blamed for Ruining Ricky Romero's No-Hitter?

Of course mere hours after I glorified the White Sox lineup for their work two nights ago, Chicago goes out and gets one-hit by Ricky Romero of the Blue Jays in a 4-2 loss. All this after I had bashed the lineup just days before.

What I'm trying to get at is that the lineup is inconsistent.

The impressive pitching performance by Ricky Romero who walked two, gave up one hit, a two-run home run by Alex Rios in the eighth, and struck out 11, was not the story.

The story was, of course, how we can make Romero's failed attempt at a no-hitter A.J. Pierzynski's fault.  

What do we do when anything happens involving the White Sox?

We blame A.J. Pierzynski.

Do not blame the hanging change up Romero delivered to the hot-hitting Alex Rios that Rios knocked the snot out of; rather, blame Pierzynski for letting a ball strike his foot four pitches earlier.

(Cue Mr. Larson from Happy Gilmore saying, "It appears your ball struck my foot.")

Whether or not it struck Pierzynski's foot is a matter of centimeters.

Perhaps we should check Pierzynski's toe for evidence.

Regardless, Pierzynski didn't break up the perfect game, which had already been broken up by two walks, nor did he break up the no-hitter with his at-bat, and yet people are now blaming him for things that happen after he is at the plate based on what he did to the mindset of another player.

Really?

If you feel a guy that has reached base seven total times this season is the root of all evil and can get in a pitcher's head, go right ahead and crown him with horns.

Soon we will be blaming Pierzynski for things after he retires.

Anyone want to link Pierzynski to the beginning of steroids?

Had it been Derek Jeter who took the ball to the toe, we'd be saying what an intelligent move that was by "the captain." Had it been Dustin Pedroia, we'd be talking about what a short, balding, scrapper he is to have taken the hit-by-pitch.

But since it is A.J. Pierzynski, it is not only blown out of proportion, but rather is the blame for everything evil in this world.
