New NBA Free-Throw Rule Explained

Women and Heroes and Tiger Woods

Rebecca McWilliamsApr 11, 2010

We need heroes. Life is difficult, and for lots of us, it's nearly impossible. That's why we need heroes. Maybe we make impossible demands...we want them to be the "bigger than life" people we need. In today's times we need something larger than life to help us feel that everything will be okay. But that is the problem with heroes...they aren't bigger than life. They are simply humans with bigger than life PR firms.

Do I care that Tiger cheated on his wife? Well, yes, I guess I do, but it's only because I was cheated upon. I know the pain, the feeling of betrayal, the whole nine yards. Did Elin know? Maybe, maybe not...I suspect maybe. Because I knew from the beginning. It was subtle changes in my ex husband's behavior, and some of it was common sense. Why was he going to work at night when he hadn't before? etc., etc., etc., You know and you don't know. Then you have to ask yourself...do you want to know?  Because if they (those great cheating masses...men and women), tell you the truth you have to make decisions that are not easy.

Do I fault Tiger with cheating? Well, duh, yes. He's a cheater, and of the worst kind, serial and with skanky women. Did he ever stop to think that he lives in an information age? His children will read about his infidelity for ever. What was he thinking? If nothing else, I thought Tiger was at least sort of smart. Now, I'm not so sure. Oh, and please don't say he's an addict of one sort or the other. If he is, too bad, but he knew before he was married. But he still chose to marry. That's what is truly reprehensible...he could be a player forever and no one would care. But when he chose to marry and have children, he made a conscious decision. His children will be forever hurt by his betrayal.

Tiger Woods will always be a great golfer. He'll never be a great father. When all is said and done, which is more important?
