MADRID, SPAIN - APRIL 10: Head coach Manuel Pellegrini (R) of Real Madrid holds Jose Maria Gutierrez by his arm as he instructs him during the La Liga match between Real Madrid and Barcelona at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu on April 10, 2010 in Madrid, Spain. Well Its Four-in-a-row now...Real Madrid haven't won in four classicos and haven't even got on the score sheet in three of them. So after this seemingly great debacle what do we learn??

a) Real Madrid Lack Big Game Mentality:

By our own admission we have to agree that Real have come up short in big games all season. Sevilla,Milan,Lyon and now Barcelona. All this points to a serious inability to take the extended version of the extra pressure that comes with being Madrid.

b) Problems Upfront:

Gonzalo Higuain scores in almost all games played against the 16 or 17 relatively weaker La Liga sides but always comes up a cropper in the bigger clashes. He didn't score against Sevilla in any game none against Milan or Lyon for that matter. This points to a serious inability to tackle better defenses. And we dream of winning titles with him as our Main Striker?

c) Poor Defending:

Real by no standards have a weak defense. The problem lies in their defending style. They commit too much upfront. With no defensive leader in absence of Pepe, the defense is struggling.

d) Poor Defensive Midfield:

For all their attacking power, Real Madrid don't have a quality defensive midfielder. Lass Diarra after a glorious first 6 months seems to have been bitten by the "I will attack bug". The guy who could have been the next Makelele is now turning out to be nobody. He is rendering Xabi ineffective because now Xabi has to defend and attack as well.

e) The 4-4-2 Formation:

For all we know, Real Madrid's roster this season didn't support the cause for a 4-4-2 formation. We needed a 4-2-3-1 setup for all players to function effectively. Ronaldo is being rendered useless by being used as a striker and Kaka is struggling at the sides. Don't try a Zidane with him. He is not Zidane..

f) Manuel Pelligrini:

The manager really has the abilities to manage big teams that we all know, but his ability to manage a team like Real Madrid is still unproven. For all his worth he hasn't been able to get the best out of the Galacticos. Kaka and Benzema are struggling(though i personally feel Benzema needs an extended run once again. He is the man for Real.)

Solutions(if any?):

My solutions Would be:

1- Don't Chop around with the team. That means no one goes.If possible bring in a quality DMF. Javi Garcia has been doing well for Benfica. We need a physical presence. Garcia could do the dirty work here.

2- Leave Higuain on the bench and get Benzema to start along with a 4-2-3-1 formation. Ronaldo can be devastating on the wings. With Marcelo on the other side and Kaka at the head, Real Madrid could unleash their true potential on the field.

3- Promote Marcos Alonso and start giving him regular games.with 7 games to go, let him get the feel of the field. He is the guy who can give you quality performances next season.

4- Probably the wildest of all, but please sack Pellegrini.(You 'll say that you expected this, come on I can hear you.) We need a manager in the bracket of Del Bosque or Van Gaal. The Solution could be to get Hierro on a caretaker basis till the World Cup and del Bosque can take over after that. But please don't make Valadano the manager.

Any food for thought? Do share with me...
