Fantasy Baseball: By The Numbers

Lane RizzardiniApr 10, 2010

Ah, Opening Day. It was warm, the crowds were roaring, and I once again had a line up to set and monitor. My first home run came from Ian Stewart, and I could already see the little gold trophy sitting on my Yahoo! mantle place as Heyward went yard next. Production from late round picks is always extra satisfying. Hope everyone’s real teams did well, unfortunately I am a Cubs fan. We’ll get to that later.

For now I’ll welcome you to the first edition of By The Numbers for the 2010 season. Every Wednesday I’ll be taking you through some of the more important numbers I run across throughout the season that can help you win your fantasy league, or at least are worth a chuckle. This week’s is going to combine some spring training stuff with some Opening Day stuff, two things you should never completely base your player opinions on. So there’s a possibility this is all be worthless. But you should keep reading anyway because otherwise you won’t find out why the Others kidnapped Walt.

Let’s get into it, some Spring Training notes first.

6 – Spring-time optimism for Aaron Hill owners who are nervous 2009 was a fluke: six homers over the course of spring training puts him tied for second amongst all hitters. Hopefully this is a sign that things will stay the same from the ’09 break out. Of course the top guy with eight was, everyone in unison now, Chris Johnson of your Houston Astros. Try not to trip over yourselves on the way to the waiver wire.

See what other numbers matter here.
