England Will Not Win The World Cup...

Zaakir HoosenApr 8, 2010

After  years of disappointment and frustration at the results that the English National Team produces at World Cups, unfortunately this trend will continue.

England might have superstar names in Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard, Wayne Rooney and John Terry, but that's not enough to win a World Cup.

England played well and eased through the qualifying stages, but they didn't really play major opposition to test their durability and skill.

Why does Brazil finish in the top six World Cup after World Cup...Brazil play tough opposition in Argentina, Paraguay, Chile and Colombia, teams nit just with flair and skill but hard teams, huge crowds, passion and massive rivalry.

All of this is what makes South American teams so difficult to beat, because they have such a tough qualifying run, the World Cup easier for them.

England play good opposition, but the problem is their opposition play similar football and everyone knows what to expect.

Current South African coach, Carlos Perreira said in an interview a while back, that the problem is not that there is too many foreigners playing in England, but rather to little English players playing in foreign countries.

It's estimated that there's over 1000 Brazilian spread over the various European leagues. Besides those playing in Brazil of-course, this gives these players an opportunity to learn other styles but to adapt to their opposition Internationally much easier.

And this has been the down-fall of English soccer, it might be a great plus to the league but a negative to the National side.

Looking at the records, England played Brazil on 23 occasions loosing 11 times and drawing 9. They played Argentina 14 times only winning 6.

My point is that England play like England, might sound stupid but do they have enough versatility to adapt and adjust their game to contain the likes of Brazil, Spain, Argentina or even Germany.

Spain's record against England might be in the favour of the English, but remember Spain's current team is one of the most talented teams in terms of it's individual players, but with excellent balance and when put together they play some of the most flowing football ever.

Spain the current holder of the Euro Cup illustrated their ability to rise to the big occasion, it also provides evidence of the rise of the Spanish National Team.

I would like to see England win the World Cup in South Africa, but honestly i don't see it happening.
