Miz's 15 K Complete Game 😱

The Fives: April 8th, 2010

Jay McAnanyApr 8, 2010

Five observations from Wednesday in sports…

1.    Now it gets interesting at Kentucky.  With 5 players leaving for the NBA Draft, we’ll see if John Calipari will try and actually build a program with kids that stay for a while or will it be a revolving door of one and done players.

2.     Here’s an idea:  When a major pro sports league finds their officials missed a call, just keep quiet.  Unless you’re going to actually change the call and the outcome of the game, it does no one any good to come out a day later and say it was missed.  It’s better to just leave it alone than further exacerbate the situation.

3.    It’ll be nice to see some new blood in the NBA playoffs as the Bobcats earned its’ first playoff berth as a franchise.  Now, we’ll get to see if Michael Jordan has a foundation to really build the team and make it a playoff regular over the next few years.

4.    The Ben Roethlisberger situation just won’t go away.  If I’m the Steelers, I start making plans to, at the very least, start with the season without your starting QB.  Charlie Batch for Kickoff Weekend starter, anyone?

5.    It’s been a good opening week of MLB so far.  Some really good performances and really good close ball games give me hope for a really entertaining summer.  I just hope they can keep the momentum going.

Five top performances from Wednesday…

1.    Edgar Renteria, Giants SS:   5 for 5 with 2 RBI’s in SF’s 10-4 win over HOU

2.    Matt Garza, Rays P:   1 run on 4 hits with 9 K’s in 8 IP in TB’s 4-3 over BAL

3.    Stephen Curry, Warriors G:   27 pts, 8 reb, 14 ast in GS’s 116-107 win over MIN

4.    Vernon Wells, Blue Jays CF:   2 for 3 with 2 HRs and 3 RBI’s in TOR’s 7-4 win over TEX

5.    Kris Versteeg, Blackhawks RW:  1 G and 3 A in CHI’s 6-5 win over STL

Five games to watch on Thursday…

1.    NHL:   Sabres at Bruins, 7:00 PM (Must win for BOS if they want to make the playoffs)

2.    MLB:   Cubs at Braves, 7:00 PM (Tommy Hanson tries to sweep CHI out of ATL)

3.    NHL:  Canadiens at Hurricanes, 7:30 PM (MON looking to clinch playoff spot tonight)

4.    MLB:  Twins at Angels, 10:00 PM (Twins try for the series split with Kevin Slowey)

5.    NBA:   Lakers at Nuggets, 10:30 PM, TNT (Denver still in the race for 2nd in the West)

Have a good day.
