Anything to Stop Me Ranting About Rooney

Mike TowersApr 8, 2010

This morning’s World Cup 2010 news round up has a special purpose, one which will hopefully become clear as the post continues...

Lionel Messi is captivating audiences with his genius at present, but, says ITV, it is at the World Cup where the Barca and Argentina star will have to provide the evidence to back up the plaudits. I like the sound of a final which pits Messi against Rooney.

An obscure terror group has issued a warning to World Cup teams which it says are “part of the Zionist-Crusader campaign against Islam”. The PR guy at Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb certainly has a vivid and bloodthirsty imagination.

Nothing will put fans off, according to The Daily Caller in the US. The perception of South Africa as dangerous doesn’t appear to be changing people’s minds. Perhaps they aren’t on the mailing list for PR from Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb.

The excellent Football Supporters’ Federation has launched a free SIM card offer for fans travelling to South Africa. Find out more here

And some of you may remember the World Cup Bafana Bafana 2010 post about Argentine hooligans being granted free trips to South Africa. More details of the plan have now emerged. I still say the organisers haven’t really thought this one through.

So why am I telling you all this? Anything to stop me ranting about the risks currently being taken with Wayne Rooney’s fitness just weeks before the World Cup starts. Grrrrrrrh.
