Stock Watch: Players on the Rise

James Hatfield Apr 6, 2010

Here are some players that are on the rise based on recent news and trades:

Kevin Kolb – If you have been living under a rock then you probably haven’t heard that Kevin Kolb is the new starter after Donovan McNabb was shifted to the Redskins.  Kolb will have the opportunity to lead the Eagles offense and he should end up a top 15 QB in 2010.  He has people with good hands all around him: Jackson, Maclin, Celek, and McCoy all will be available to a highly accurate Kolb who should be a solid pick-up in redraft and dynasty leagues.

Devin Thomas & Santana Moss – McNabb and Shanahan in Washington means the WR’s in Washington should see an up-tick in yardage as well as TD’s for the 2010 season.  Put a circle around Thomas on your draft guides as he is maturing well and I would expect 750+ yards and 5 TD’s plus if you are in a return yardage league you get the bonus of strong yards from KO returns.  The only thing that would hurt Thomas’ value is if Washington brings in Brandon Marshall or Terrell Owens.

Matt Leinart - It appears Leinart will not be unseated by Derek Anderson nor will a rookie QB be inserted over Matt.  I would be happy to have Matt as a back-up QB for 2010 and his upside is incredible if he can find himself this year.  Matt will come very cheap and has the upside to make him a great late round sleeper in 2010.

Mike Thomas – Goodbye Torry Holt and hello Mike Thomas, the poor man’s Steve Smith from Carolina.  I have a hunch that Thomas could have a very solid 2010 season with 750+ yards 5+ TDs plus the KO return yards if you are in a KO return yardage league.  Mike Thomas is a safer bet than Devin Thomas and is a great later round sleeper to snag in your draft.

Ricky Williams – I am reaching early for Ricky Williams in my redraft leagues as Ronnie Brown won’t have a huge impact on Williams production in 2010 as Brown is coming off another huge injury and off the field antics.  Ricky seems poised to be an easy target for 1,000+ yards and double digit TD’s.  Ricky is a very safe pick for 2010.
