2010 Opening Game: What To Watch When The Yanks Take On The Red Sox

Kate ConroyApr 4, 2010

To repeat, is to duplicate or reproduce something.

For the New York Yankees, something is the World Series.

This trek starts tonight when they take the field at Fenway Park against their division rival Red Sox.

Josh Beckett and CC Sabathia will duel it out on the mound, and it will be the first time Curtis Granderson and Nick Johnson get to show their stuff.

Johnson’s injury worries are a growing concern, and he has to prove himself trustworthy on the field.

Granderson in pinstripes has Yankee Universe bursting with excitement. He seems like one hell of a player, and a person.

Another Yankees to watch is Alex Rodriguez, to see if his superior end to last year will carry through to the 2010 season. Arod is key to this team’s success both on defense and offense. If all continues looking good, Arod’s on the road to an MVP type of season.

It will be intriguing to see how the Red Sox bats average against Sabathia. Boston’s off-season marked improvements on defense for certain, but the departure of Jason Bay in the squad might be more evident that GM Theo Epstein originally thought.

David Ortiz is without the steroid issue not lingering like 2009, so Big Papi’s bat will be appealing to watch. Along, with new Red Sox Mike Cameron.

Cameron might be new to Boston, but he is not in baseball at 37 years-old. Cameron used to be a base stealing machine, which in 2009 declined for the first time in 13 seasons of double digits across the board. Cameron is a fantastic center fielder, and most likely will hit 20+ homers in 2010.

Tonights game features two teams, who have the oldest rivalry in sports. It promises to be a battle, as whenever the Yanks and Red Sox face each other.

The Yankees have last season’s success, and coming in as the defending world champions burns in the hearts of Red Sox Nation. This epic battle is one not to miss.
