Would You Pay To Watch Roy Nelson vs. James Toney?

Tom NgoApr 3, 2010

Roy โ€œBig Countryโ€ Nelson came up huge at โ€œUFC Fight Night 21 โ€ after it took him all of 39 seconds to dispose of Stefan Struve. Although the win was electrifying, Nelson was disappointed he wasnโ€™t able to showcase his refined overall skills.

โ€œOn a personal note, I think it was actually alright,โ€ Nelson said of his victory at the post-fight presser. โ€œBut I went back in the locker room with my coaches, and it was everything that we did not work on.

โ€œSo Iโ€™m happy with the performance, but the things that weโ€™ve been working on for the past two months wasnโ€™t even there.โ€

The MMA funnyman added that heโ€™ll have to hold on to his special moves for a rainy day.

โ€œIโ€™ll save my ninja techniques for later,โ€ Nelson jokingly stated.

Speaking of Royโ€™s next outing, after collecting his second straight Octagon win en route to bumping his pro record to a respectable 15-4, Nelson started petitioning for his next opponentโ€”newly signed boxing legend James Toney.

โ€œJames Toney, itโ€™s one of those fights Iโ€™d actually like to see,โ€ Nelson stated. โ€œI donโ€™t mind beating up on YouTube guys. Iโ€™m cool with that. But for the most part, itโ€™s not really a fight I want to see because I want to fight the best in the world.โ€

Understanding that posting a victory over โ€œLights Outโ€ in his mixed martial arts debut would hardly be considered an astronomical feat, Nelson still believes it would make for an interesting scrap, while the UFC reaps the financial benefits.

โ€œ[I want to fight] James Toney just because everybody likes to talk about James Toney,โ€ Nelson said. โ€œI think that would be a good pay-per-view fight.โ€

The owner of MMAโ€™s biggest gut, and thickest mullet, didnโ€™t expend much energy last night inside the Bojangles Coliseum, so itโ€™s possible he could be back in action for one of the UFCโ€™s blockbuster summer shows.

Names like Frank Mir, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Junior dos Santos may be available, so if โ€œBig Countryโ€ is serious about challenging for the title, the opportunities for him to sit among the heavyweight elite should be provided.
