Premier League Previews: Week 33, Saturday's Games

Joe LazarApr 2, 2010

Manchester United vs. Chelsea

Rooney has picked up an injury which will see the instrumental striker out for the next three weeks at least.

The England forward has been instrumental to United’s successes thus far and he has scored 34 goals for United this season. Chelsea seem to be built for this sort of game, they have won the last five matches against any of the Premierships “big four” and since Drogba has returned from the African Cup he has been on incredible form and it seems very likely that he’ll be aiming to net a few.

There isn’t a great deal between Man United and Chelsea, this match could go either way.

Arsenal vs. Wolverhampton

Fabregas, Gallas, and Arshavin are all out after picking up injuries against Barcelona midweek.

There have been a lot of rumours circulating about Fabregas’ fitness and if they are to be believed the player will be out for the rest of the season, which would not be surprising considering the player as only just about fit to play against Barcelona.

Wolves are looking likely to put forward the same side that held Everton to a draw on Saturday. The midlands side will be very lucky if they manage to hold off Arsenal for the same result.

Bolton vs. Aston Villa

Paul Robinson is likely to miss the match due to an ankle injury although he is due to face a last minute fitness test. However this worry is nothing when compared to Aston Villa’s, the Birmingham based side are having late fitness tests for five key players including Milner and Carew who has scored Villa’s last four goals.

Both teams have been on poor form lately with Bolton struggling to find goals and Villa have only won three from their last 12 matches which has seen them slip three places in the table.

City’s Zabelta is currently serving his two-match ban after he received his 10th yellow card of the season.

Burnley have only won one of their last 21 league matches so they’re hardly favorites for this match up, especially when City are on a reasonable run and are unbeaten in their last four matches.

Both of these teams have been leaking goals this season with Burnley having not kept a clean sheet in 23 games and City not having kept one from their last 10 away games.

Portsmouth vs. Blackburn

Portsmouth are running short of players again following the injuries they picked up at Tottenham.

Blackburn’s keeper Paul Robinson could return to the fold for this match following the calf injury which has seen him miss his last three matches.

Blackburn have not won away from home all season and haven’t strung three wins together since 2007, but this doesn’t necessarily mean Pompey are going to catch a break.

Stoke vs. Hull

Stoke midfielder Whitehead will be returning to the side after the end of his suspension. Faye and Kitson will be facing last minute fitness tests following the injuries they picked up at West Ham.

Stoke have been on poor form as of late and haven’t won at home in four games, yet this is nothing compared with Hull’s abysmal no away wins from their last 21. Stoke do remain the favourites, but only as their performances have not been quite as bad as Hull’s

Sunderland vs. Tottenham

Alan Hutton will be unable to play due to the terms of his loan contract, so Bardsley is likely to start in his place. Mensah and Meyler will both be facing last minute fitness tests to see if they will be fit to play against Tottenham.

Spurs are not in any better shape and will be having a late fitness test for Palacios and will be missing Corluka, Dawson, and Huddlestone.

Tottenham generally have a very good record against Sunderland and have won 11 of their last 17 premiership meetings, and if Tottenham win here it will be the first time in ten years where they have won six successive games. Spurs are understandably resounding favorites for this match.
