Arsenal Fractured: Cesc Fabregas, Andrei Arshavin, and William Gallas Sidelined
The fight to come back from a 2-0 deficit against Barcelona in the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinals yielded a 2-2 draw for Arsenal this week.
Unfortunately, two of Arsenal's stars sustained injuries that could sideline them for multiple weeks, if not the rest of the Premier League season.
Star midfielder and Arsenal captain, Cesc Fabregas came out in the 85th minute after scoring a penalty. He limped off clutching his right leg, pain forcing him to grit his teeth.
The report is that Fabregas has suffered a cracked right fibula. There is no doubt that he will be ruled out for the rest of Arsenal's season. How this affects Spain's national team is unknown for now.
Before that, forward Andrei Arshavin and defender William Gallas were taken off by Arsenal in the 27th and 45th minutes, respectively. Both came off due to calf injuries.
Arshavin, a Russian international player, has said he could miss up to three weeks, though, missing the rest of the season is possible.
Gallas has been ruled out for at least five weeks, which could easily mean he won't see any action for the rest of the Premier League schedule if the timeline increases at all. This was his first action since suffering another calf injury on February 10.
This is a huge blow to Arsenal with all three positions suffering losses. They will need the surrounding players to step up in a big way if they want to remain competitive. It could be a huge disappointment at this point in the season, after managing to procure a draw with Barca in the Champions League and being only four points removed from defending champions Manchester United in the Premier League.
These injuries come at a time when many other stars are seeing a lapse in playing time due to their own misfortunes on the field. Hopefully, the players can at least recover in time to compete in the World Cup this year.
