Joshua CareyApr 2, 2010

UFC Welterweight Thiago "Pitbull" Alves appears to be back on track for his return to the Octagon.

Friday morning, the American Top Team product announced via Twitter that his return is expected this summer, saying:

"Leaving the hospital going back to FL! 114 its looking good!!! I'm back soo happy thanks God! And all u guys! Osu!"

Following suit, someone whom is close to the fighter also followed up on the news, saying via his Twitter account:

"looks like he has a target return date of ufc 114 or 115...Vegas or Vancouver baby!!!!"

He later followed up with: "So I think 114 is more like it...Vegas baby."

Sources close to Bleacher Report say, that nothing has been offered to Alves from the UFC but only that he could be ready to compete by UFC 114 or 115. At this stage, it's only hopeful thinking about the early return. Keep in mind, that if the UFC hasn't confirmed it then it's not one-hundred percent official.

The reason for the hospital was due to a failed CT Scan prior to UFC 111 where he was scheduled to face Jon Fitch in their highly anticipated rematch.

Following the CT Scan, Alves then saw a specialist and underwent an outpatient procedure to correct the problem.

Now corrected, Alves seems to be eyeing a spot at either UFC 114 in Las Vegas, which features a main event between bitter rivals Quinton "Rampage" Jackson and Rashad "Suga" Evans.

The other option is UFC 115 in Vancouver, Canada, which features a bout between current Ultimate Fighter 11 coaches Chuck "The Iceman" Liddell and Tito "The Huntington Beach Bad Boy" Ortiz.

Ultimately, whichever event Alves ends up fighting on will mark a happy return for the Pitbull, as he will no doubt be looking to place himself at the top of the division and in line for another title shot—possibly a rematch against Georges St. Pierre.
