U Think You Know Why Duke Is Hated?... You Don't

 We all know that With the Duke University basketball team people either need to love them or hate them, there is no middle ground. But what is the real reason the hate for Duke is widespread throughout the country, and not limited to Carolina and Maryland fans?

 There is something about people especially about Americans myself included that does not want to see the same people or teams on top of the mountain. Unless of course, it's the team you happen to rout for. So Duke Fans love the fact that Duke could be playing Sam Houston State and still have a prime time game on ESPN. And at the same time fans of other teams hate them for it.

 They love the fact that Dick Vitale has often been called Dukie V. In part because it shows just how much people hate Duke. And fans know that it is better to be hated than to have people be indifferent towards you. If a team is hated that means they are doing something right. On the other hand, if people are indifferent towards your favorite team, all that means is that the team never exceeded anyone's expectations.

 This way of thinking explains why people despise Duke, the Yankees, USC, Miami(FL), the Patriots, Tim Tebow, even Barcelona FC and Manchester United overseas in Europe. It also explains why people love the Phoenix Suns, the Colts before they won the super bowl, the Rams when they were good, and the Minnesota twins. You can never hate a team that doesn't win often or the team that doesn't get that much publicity.

 All this brings us to our point and that is Duke Basketball. Wasn't it interesting In the 90's and the early 2000's how Duke would always be on top but they looked the way they did. Isn't it crazy today how the players you see on Duke teams always have Duke in the top ten in the country, but yet you could never picture them at a playground in Harlem or in Philadelphia.

 Isn't it the most irritating thing that the "Cameron Crazies" paint themselves in royal blue, chant disrespectful things, are loud, rude, annoying and yet they will eventually be engineers, doctors, and lawyers.

 The real reason for One's despise for Duke is simple... Nothing about Duke is logical

 What is logical about White kids not only being competitive in basketball but actually winning? What is logical about having every Black player on your team look like prep school kid? More importantly what is logical about a School whose main fan support does not come from the state the school is located in? 

 The answer to these questions is simply NOTHING! And that is the main reason why Duke University is hated.
