Uncle Charlie's Fantasy Baseball Roundup: Pre-Draft Preparation

Evan AczonApr 1, 2010

At long last, spring training is over. The regular season starts in less than a week.

That means that rosters are almost set, and you fantasy owners out there will know who to draft.

For all you Giants fans, you'll have to hold off, at least for a couple months, on drafting wunderkinds Buster Posey and Madison Bumgarner.

But Braves fans rejoice! You will have the chance to draft super-prospect Jason Heyward. Yankees fans will get the chance to see how Phil Hughes will be in the rotation. Nationals prospect Ian Desmond will be the Opening Day shortstop.

There are also the shakedowns of pre-Opening Day injuries. For those who have already drafted Joe Nathan, you're out an All-Star closer and a ton of points for the season. Those who picked up Joe Blanton and Huston Street are also out of luck. Jose Reyes and Carlos Beltran are on the shelf, as are Cliff Lee (SEA) and Scott Richmond (TOR).

If you have a late draft, like Uncle Charlie's League does on Saturday or the Pride of Detroit's draft that we have tomorrow, you have the chance to evaluate how much spring training counts.

Do you draft such spring studs as San Francisco outfielders John Bowker (.304/.372/.609, 5HR, 20RBI) and Aaron Rowand (.477/.544/.708)? What about Jonathan Sanchez, who in his last outing struck out 11 in six innings? In the same vein, are you worried about Tim Lincecum's 6.94 ERA this spring?

Followers, league members, fellow fantasy owners, who are your last-minute pickups? Now that rosters are almost set, who have you picked up or dropped? Who are the big movers on your draft board?
