Wolverine Wednesday: The Three-QB Formation
We all know about the changes coming next year with the Michigan defense.
We also know that Michigan will not be starting a freshman QB for the first time since Chad Henne left.
What we don't know is how RR and his staff is going to mix up the offense with three capable QBs on the depth chart for the first time in years.
Now, I have to give credit to where credit is due, this was not my idea but AnnArbor.com's Mike Rothstein, but what do you think about the possibility of a 2010 offensive formation that would have the exciting three Michigan QB's in the same backfield?!
Think of the possibilities of a backfield with Tate under center or in the shotgun, Devin to his right, and Denard to his left. There would be three guys in the backfield that could beat you with their arms or legs; a veritable defensive coordinator's nightmare.
The positive? It gets your playmakers on the field at the same time.
The negative? Your entire QB depth is on the field at the same time.
It would also mean that Devin burns his redshirt and doesn't get that extra year of learning the QB position. The flip side to burning the redshirt would be that he gets experience being on the field and seeing real game action instead of a few series here and there during the year.
Just something to ponder until early September.
Future four-star guy?
When Michigan offered a scholarship to WR Shawn Conway, most of us said, "who?"
Now Shawn is making a ton of noise and might be rated as one of the best Michigan high school prospects this year. Here is what Rival's Josh Helmholdt said about Shawn after last weekend's seven-on-seven tournament (Freep link ).
What jumped out in that performance was the fluid style Conway possesses and his natural pass-receiving skills.
At last weekend’s BadgerSports seven-on-seven tournament, Conway displayed an even greater array of talents. Playing for the Detroit Elite 7-on-7 team, Conway hauled in touchdown pass after touchdown pass. His ability to find holes in zone defenses, and his ability to separate from defenders in man defenses, created a mismatch against even the top competition at the event.
Seems Michigan got a head start on everyone on getting Shawn's commitment early.
