The time has finally come. Brock Lesnar and Shane Carwin will finally get a chance to step into the Octagon together. The event has been confirmed as UFC 116 on July 3, according to UFC President Dana White.
Carwin's UFC 111 knockout win over Frank Mir two days ago set the wheels in motion. Carwin and Lesnar were originally set to fight at UFC 106 back in November, but Lesnar was forced to pull out with an illness. Now that the champion is back in fighting form, he is ready for his upcoming task.
While believing that the interim heavyweight belt is a "make believe belt," Lesnar knows that Carwin is a strong wrestler with knockout power. Lesnar, too, was a collegiate champion, and has impressive speed and power as well.
The two current heavyweight champions both have brutal wins over former heavyweight champion Frank Mir, and will be looking to match each other in size and strength. When Lesnar entered the Octagon after Carwin's UFC 111 fight, Lesnar stated that he was impressed with Carwin's win, but that his belt meant nothing.
Carwin (12-0) and Lesnar (4-1) will battle over Independence Day weekend at the MGM Grad Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV.
