Nothing Special: WrestleMania XXVI Does Not Live Up to the Hype
Wrestlemania XXVI had the makings to be the greatest WrestleMania ever. The matches had the right buildup. The matches had the right elements to make this a spectacular event. In the end, this WrestleMania was nothing special or noteworthy.
The Diva match had to be the worst five minutes in WWE history. They tried to make it special by having Vickie Guerrero do her late husband's move and it backfired.
I do not understand the reasoning behind Rey beating Punk. Mysterio is on the decline in his career and Punk could be the future of the company.
The match finale also took something away from the Straight Edge Society. If the WWE wanted to build the SES into a main event stable, then having Rey Rey go over makes the SES look like mid-card jobbers.
Everyone expected Orton to win, which also puts a damper on the development of Rhodes and DiBiase. It appears now Orton will move on to another feud, while Rhodes and DiBiase will start a program.
If the IWC had their wish, Morrison would be the new world champion, but he cannot even get a world tag title in the WWE.
It appears Truth and Morrison are destined to be mid carders, while the Big Show will continue to be a tag team mainstay with a partner who needs a rub to the big time.
Triple H played the part of the wounded veteran playing possum. The Game let Sheamus think he was out, but then HHH hit the Pedigree. Nothing spectacular about this match.
Sheamus did not come out looking like a bigger monster, he actually dropped a few pegs with this loss.
A better outcome would have been for Sheamus to do the Pearl Harbor on the Game during his celebration. Sheamus should have left HHH laying in the center of the ring.
I am not convinced Swagger was supposed to win the Money in the Bank match. He was looking around and fumbling with the clasp to the briefcase. It appeared he was waiting for someone to knock him off the ladder. No one expected him to win.
The favorites were Christian, Kingston, and McIntyre. I could possibly see those three as a world champion before the year's end, but since Swagger has become a mid card jobber, I do not feel he is world championship material.
If Swagger really was not supposed to win the contract, then expect a match for the briefcase in the near future.
The MITB match was only special because Matt Hardy showed signs that he was not the weaker of the Hardy Boyz and actually lived up to his potential.
Most fans were split between the Jericho-Edge outcome. At least the fans will get treated to a few more matches between these two.
The biggest fear was to have a one and done match between the former tag partners. As the ending showed, this feud is just beginning.
No outside interference nor cashing in of the briefcase also caught many fans off guard.
Vince vs. Bret went as expected except the double cross in the beginning. The double cross could have gone better.
The Harts should have played it through the entire match as though they were paid off by McMahon, then toward the end, show their true colors by screwing VKM.
Batista and Cena followed the script perfectly, which made the match one for the fans to go to the bathroom or grab another cold beer. In the end, everyone and their brother knew SuperCena would emerge as champion. Disgusting.
HBK will no longer wrestle thanks to a tombstone. The match was excellent, but will not be noted as such because it did not compare to last year's bout.
Overall, WrestleMania XXVI did not live up to the billing. Maybe we as fans expected way too much. No major swerves. No major WrestleMania moments. For all the star billing, nothing special to write home.
