Ali Funeka is a Warrior, Joan Guzman is a Disgrace and Clown
I will start by saying two things. I love Ali Funeka. I really don’t like to slam boxers because they put their lives on the line every time they fight.
With that being said Joan Guzman is a disgrace to boxing. I hope I never see him on American TV again. If he does weasel his way back onto TV I hope he ends in a heap on the canvas.
Watching his fight against Funeka proved that he is a total clown. The guy gets stomped by a much better fighter in their first fight. So what does he do? Never tries to make weight for this fight and comes in nine pounds over.
He knows that Funeka would have to take the fight to get the payday. He also knew Funeka would because he take the fight when Nate Campbell came in over.
Then Guzman, who had his ass whipped in their first fight, proceeds to pull out his bravado this time around. He banged his chest, talked to Funeka, and let Funeka know his shots weren’t hurting him.
Well no matter how good of a lightweight Funeka is he couldn’t beat a welterweight who ran around the ring all night. Guzman did land good shots but if he had attempted to make weight he would of lost this fight last night.
He barely won a split decision when he was fresher, bigger, and stronger. He is a 100 percent joke. After coming in overweight for the second time he should be banned from American TV.
How he goes into the ring knowing that he isn’t the better fighter then proceeds to taunt Funeka was simply stomach turning. He showed no sportsmanship.
How anyone supports this man I do not know. He simply slapped the boxing public in the face by coming in overweight. He made no effort to do what he told us, the boxing public, he would do.
If you can’t make a weight that is fine. When you don’t try to make weight just so you can beat someone who owned you, that is unforgivable in my eyes.
On the flip side of this coin is Ali Funeka. He is simply a old school throwback fighter. He will fight anyone, anywhere, no matter what.
He has three losses but in my eyes he has one. He lost two fights to overweight opponents who put him down. Their added weight and power had to do with those two losses, I have no doubt.
One of his draws should be gone as well and that should be a win. He should stand at 31-1-2 and he should hold a lightweight title.
I take my hat off to Funeka for making weight, fighting good fights, and fighting fighters who don’t have nearly his discipline.
Not only does Funeka take these fights that are unfair to him. He takes them and he never once opens his mouth to complain. He takes it all in stride and goes out and fights his fights. He is truly a warrior.
They talked about Guzman's son saying "Daddy you need to fight that tall guy again." Well no matter what the final verdict was Guzman, Funeka, and Guzman’s son know who the better fighter is.
He is from East London, Eastern Cape, South Africa, he has a record of 30-3-3 with 25 knockouts, and he is the uncrowned lightweight champion of the world. He is Ali Funeka.
