Journey to the Tourney: UNI Fans Rule the Night

With a seemingly effortless flick of the wrist by Ali Farokhmanesh last Saturday night, the University of Northern Iowa Panthers knocked off top-ranked Kansas and earned a trip to the city of St. Louis for an especially “Sweet” 16.

And seeing as though Cedar Falls, IA is just a (348 mile) stones throw away from the Gateway City, it shouldn’t have come as a shock that the first thing we saw when we descended upon the Edward Jones Dome as part of Yardbarker.com’s “Journey to the Tourney” sponsored by Champion, was lots of purple.

And anytime you can take a surprise appearance in the Sweet 16 and turn it into a professionally crafted Field of Dreams pun, you’ve officially gotten the attention of JoeSportsFan.com…

There was no question which team ruled the day in terms of fan support.  Though Michigan State won the game last night, they did not win the battle of the fans.  That title belonged to Northern Iowa.  Rumor has it Kansas fans sold their tickets cheap.  Ha.

Field of Dreams puns and Kansas jokes both get us everytime.
