Breaking Down The Elite Eight

This has been a great tournament so far.  There have been plenty of upsets and overtime games to satisfy the appetite of any die-hard college basketball fan.  Now the Elite Eight is set and eight teams will square off to see who will play for the national championship. I have broken down the games and picked winners to advance to the Final Four!

West Virginia overcame injuries and took apart Washington to advance, but they play a much better team in Kentucky today.  Kentucky is full of talent and will give the Mountaineers match up problems. The Wildcats are 13-3-1 ATS in their last 17 vs. Big East and 6-0 ATS in their last 6 NCAA Tournament games as a favorite. The Cats advance in a big way!

Butler has shown that they are more than the fly by night Cinderella.  They play against Kansas St and they are off a double OT game. This is the time of the year when fatigue plays a role and Kansas St will be tired after a big game. Butler has played discipline ball and relied on a hot shot from outside. The Bulldogs are 22-7 ATS in their last 29 games as an underdog and the Wildcats are 2-6-1 ATS in their last 9 games after scoring more than 90 points in their previous game. Take Butler plus the points in this game.

You have to handle to Michigan St and the Spartans, even without arguably their best player they still mustered the strength to take out Cinderella Northern Iowa. This will be a much harder task when they run into the Volunteers. The Vols knocked off Ohio St and they did it with a great combination of speed and strength. Wayne Chism controlled the inside and seemed to score at will, and JP Prince provided flash from the outside. This will be impossible for Michigan St to match up against.  The Volunteers are 5-0-1 ATS in their last 6 non-conference games and the Spartans are 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record. Take Tennessee to advance and go to the Final Four!

Baylor is off a blowout win against St. Mary’s in what basically turned out to be a home game for the Bears. Now they face a much tougher opponent in Duke. Duke was touted as the worst #1 seed of the tournament but they are just 1 of 2 still left in the tournament. With coach K at the helm and Duke looking like the Duke of old this looks like it could be the best game in the elite eight to watch. Kyle Singler looks as though he has hit his stride and his style will be tough for Baylor to handle. In one of the better games in the tournament I am going to side with Duke.
