Shane Carwin says he's ready for heavyweight gold. But he needs to get through Frank Mir on Saturday night first.

Carwin, who burst into the Octagon in May 2008, has proven to be one of the best power punchers in the organization. Even with four proper submission victories on his record, his claim to fame - especially inside the Octagon - has been his (T)KO wins.

While Carwin has been criticised for not fighting name opponents, his win over Gabriel Gonzaga propelled him into the spotlight. Even Mir said that he gained a lot of respect for Carwin after watching that fight.

Mir vs. Carwin will mark Carwin's fourth trip into the Octagon, and his first chance at capturing the UFC interim heavyweight belt.

At the UFC 111 pre-fight press conference, UFC President Dana White said that the winner of Carwin vs. Mir - if healthy - will face Brock Lesnar this summer.
