MMA: Five Bouts I want to see From Affliction

Ryan WalesJul 11, 2008

Aleksander Emelianenko vs. Andrei Arlovski

Both have Sambo backgrounds and heavy hands. It would be a fast paced slugfest. I'd take Arlovski but a KO by somebody is guaranteed.

Vitor Belfort vs. Tito Ortiz

Ortiz hasn't declared his intentions yet but for the sake of this article lets assume he signs a non-exclusive contract with Affliction. Ortiz and Belfort met at UFC 51 and Ortiz won by split decision. I would like to see what Belfort has after training with Chute Boxe. I see Ortiz taking the rematch as well by ground and pound.

Tim Sylvia vs. Aleksander Emelianenko

I don't have the hate for "timmy" that some do and think that he would give us a good show against the younger Emelianenko. Both men have above average stand-up and like to stand in the pocket and bang. This would be a match-up of Tim's long range jab versus the looping power of Emelianenko. I think that eventually  Aleksander would catch Sylvia and put him down and out.

Renato "Babalu" Sobral vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira

Sometimes I want to see a Jiu-Jitsu clinic and this bout would be that showcase. It wouldn't take this fight long to go to the ground and once it got there it will stay there. Both men have a slick submission game and this fight would be a very technical showdown. Some people may consider it boring I would find it fascinating.

Fedor Emelianenko vs. Andrei Arlovski

This is a bout we hopefully will see if both men are winners at the July 19th show. The key to beating Fedor, if there is one, is to keep the fight standing. With his Sambo background Arlovski should be able to do just that. Arlovski has good power and great hand speed. He also has a devastating straight right. Fedor has one of the best ground games in the Heavyweight division and as the cliche' goes is amazingly fast for a man of his size. If Arlovski could keep the fight standing he would have just as good a shot as any to beat Fedor.

Well there are five fights that I would like to see in the future from Affliction. I'm exciting to see the show on the 19th and their follow up effort.

On a side note this article was written under the influence of some heavy painkillers. While on vacation my Appendix decided to revolt and was removed. So here I am writing this article while recovering. Please ignore any mention of pink bunny rabbits or cries for Arlovski vs. Sylvia four.
