Get To Know Under-the-Radar Wide Receiver Prospect Marcus Leak

One of the many perks of working the 2011 recruiting beat is hearing about great under-the-radar prospectsโ€”like wide receiver Marcus Leak, of Monroe, North Carolinaโ€”before their recruitment takes off.

Helping that happen is something I'm thrilled to try and do.

Marcus's coach was kind enough to email me a few days ago requesting that I spread the word on his talented wide receiver, who is just starting to generate buzz on the NC recruiting trail.

Marcus's film (video embedded below) was indeed impressive. He is explosive off the line of scrimmage, secures the ball confidently in traffic and turns upfield for valuable yards after the catchโ€”all great assets in a top wide receiver to-be.

He looks like a tough player to bring down on punt returns, as well.ย And his coach also told me that he's received special coaching from CFL Hall of Fame coachย Ray Jauch.

The 6'0", 194-pound prospect is receiving interest from in-state programs like North Carolina and NC State, and apparently the Maryland Terrapins have also been in contact.

An elusive player like him could do damage in a spread schemeโ€”I hope my Wolverines are paying attention.

I also hope Marcus gets the attention and recognition he deserves, and I'd like to wish him luck in the 2011 recruiting season.
Go get 'em, kid.
For all coaches and parents: If you have under-the-radar kids like Marcus whom you think deserve more attention, feel free to let me know. I'm certainly open to making a Getting to Know-style segment for sleeper prospects into a weekly feature.
