Amir Khan Gets Ready To Shut Malignaggi Up
A few days ago Paulie Malignaggi did what he does best. He ran his mouth about his next opponent, Amir Khan; he slammed the sport that pays his bills; and he took a shot at pound-for-pound champ Manny Pacquiao.
If only Paulie Malignaggi could punch with his mouth, he'd be one heck of a fighter. But since he uses his hands to fight he's going to be in for a long night when he faces Amir Khan in New York City on May 15.
It's funny to me that Malignaggi gets as much press as he does. His biggest fights are all losses.
His fame within boxing circles comes as much for Paulie's unsubstantiated charges against Manny Pacquiao as anything in the ring.
You can't really blame Paulie for running his mouth. After Khan gets through with him his days as a headliner will be all but over.
Paulie is the perfect opponent for Khan. An active fighter with almost no punch at all, I guarantee that Khan will floor Malignaggi in six rounds or less.
Anyone who has watched Khan fight can tell you that the former Silver Medal winner has fast hands and a vicious punch with power in both hands.
What they can't tell you is whether he has a chin.
Since his one round knockout to Breidis Prescott, Khan has fought top named fighters, talented fighters, a champion fighter but...not one single fighter who can break an egg.
Along comes Paulie.
Another guy who poses no danger to Khan with his punching power. Which will allow Amir to do what he does best.
Unleash his power with little concern about being hurt.
I'm not saying Khan can't take on big punchers. Certainly his defense has gotten much better under Freddie Roach.
He no longer lunges forward after every punch, and he holds his hands closer to his head to block incoming punches.
But it's not like he's faced anyone who has posed the kind of danger that say, Marcos Maidana poses.
Plus Khan has good reason to knock Paulie silly. Since Khan started training with Freddie Roach at the Wild Card Gym he has become very good friends with Manny Pacquiao.
Because of that friendship, Amir will will be more than happy to be the man who finally shuts Malignaggi's big mouth.
Come May 15, Khan will do exactly that.
