Sabre Rattling: Buffalo's Offense Explodes in the South

Spencer TimkeyMar 22, 2010

After a short hiatus, the Buffalo Sabres' offense seems to be running smoothly again.

Buffalo steamrolled its last three opponents not by Ryan Miller's stellar goaltending, but by production from its offensive big guns. The Sabres put up a staggering 14 - yep, count 'em - 14 goals in their last three games, finishing off a five game road trip with a solid record of 3-1-1.

Tip your hat to Jason Pominville for starting the explosion against the Tampa Bay Lightning. The population of Pominville went up by three as Buffalo all but crushed Tampa's playoff hopes.

It seemed like the goal-horn went off more times than an angry driver stuck in traffic.

Calder Trophy candidate Tyler Myers found the back of the net and Derek Roy added one short-handed as part of the six-goal torching.

Two days later against the Florida Panthers, Buffalo's offense refused to slow down.

The Sabres chased Tomas Vokoun from Florida's goal crease, lighting the lamp three times en route to a second straight win. This game, however, saw its share of ugly goals.

Jochen Hecht, Mike Grier and Buffalo native Pat Kaleta each lit the lamp for the Sabres.

A day later against the Carolina Hurricanes, the Sabres kept the heat on. With no mercy, they chased 'Canes goaltender Justin Peters after beating him four times.

A 5-3 win ensued.

The Sabres have 11 games until the playoffs.

They picked the perfect time to get their offense up and running again.
