Who Is Next For Bones?

Jason CottierMar 22, 2010

After devastating Matt Hammill in his DQ loss I saw something in Jon Jones that made me scared to see his name opposite of my favorite fighters.  Jones showed so much skill that he could be the next great LHW champion.

The only thing I see that Jones needs to work on is his controll of himself.  Jones got carried away and dropped illegal elbows getting himself disqualified.  Then Jones also got a little amped up at the weigh ins with Brandon Vera.

Jones tore through Vera and showed that I may just be right about having that feeling of not wanting to watch when Bones fights one of my favorites.

I read on the feature about the fight on Yahoo that Dana White said that it is going to be about a year before Jones gets a championship caliber opponent.  Which leads me to wonder who will they pull out to fight him?

Brandon Vera was not exactly in line for a title shot, but he was respected and after the way he handled himself in his "loss" to Randy Couture I don't think many people saw him as mid-level either.

So naturally Jones should fight a higher ranked fighter.  Keith Jardine seems to give some people problems...but Jones trains with Greg Jackson.  So the likelihood that we would see two fighters from the same camp fighting just to help fill a card is slim.  On that matter it is pretty hard to keep up with which fighters train at which gym...so many of the other fights that I can see happening may be false hope too.

Ryan Bader is another athletic wrestler with power in his hands...that match up seems like the best, because both fighters have an opportunity to come away from this fight with more knowledge of themselves.

Thiago Silva, Silva would be further down the road since he just had a shot at the title and fought an excellent third round against Rashad Evans.

Chuck Liddell...I love seeing Chuck get beat up

So if Jones could get past Bader and Silva...he could obviously knock out Chuck Liddell...everyone does.  And then we can see exactly how much of a test he could give Machida.  If he does somehow get past Machida then maybe we would be able to see a Super-Fight with Anderson Silva.

If Jon Jones not only earns a title fight, but beats Lyoto Machida...a fight with Silva would be a huge draw.  Not only that but if Jones were to beat both Machida and Silva then maybe we would not have to hear about how Fedor is the greatest pound for pound when he hasn't fought anyone in years that is top level.

I know that the chances of Bones beating Machida are low...so me saying that he could be Machida and Silva are just being thrown out there as a what if scenario.  I do not think Jones is Superman, but he is extremely talented and it is a chance for me to find a new talent that could become the top guy and jump on his bandwagon early...as for Fedor he is a virus and I am getting tired of hearing about him.
