Jimmie Johnson Wins Food City 500 @ Bristol
Jimmie Johnson scored his first win at Bristol and his 50th career win overall Sunday in the Food City 500 @ Bristol Motor Speedway. Johnson led the race early but Kurt Busch dominated most of the day, when the caution came out with 18 laps to go Busch and Johnson came to pit road and took four tires, but Greg Biffle, Matt Kenseth, Carl Edwards and Tony Stewart took only two. Johnson was able to get past Busch and the rest of the field on his way to Victory Lane in Thunder Valley. Heres the race recap from Bristol.
Joey Logano started on pole but did'nt lead the first lap at Kurt Busch took the lead, then Logano would get the lead back and swap with Johnson when he went to the top on Lap 8 of 500. Johnson would start to lap the field earlier as lap 20 the caution came out on Lap 41 the first of the day when Dave Blaney cut a tire. Clint Bowyer who came into the race top 5 in points would be disappointed as the motor let go on lap 50 and he would be out. Lap 114 David Reuitmann who was running second at the time would drop a cylinder all but ending his day. After the restart Denny Hamlin would cut a tire a few laps later and hit the wall. Kurt Busch would lead Greg Biffle off pit road as the #2 car had great runs and pit stops all day. On the restart Joey Logano the polesitter cuts a tire and comes to pit road, the next caution would come out at lap 139 for a small shower over the racetrack. The jet dryers came out and the cars stayed on track and the race would go back to great as Greg Biffle leads on the restart ahead of Juan Pablo Montoya with 354 laps to go. Biffle and Montoya would battle for the lead of the race and Montoya took the lead on lap 178 and hold the race lead for nearly 30 laps until he would be passed by Biffle. The race seen alot of passing and side by side racing on Sunday a record for new lead changes at Bristol since the early 90's.
On to lap 204 Kasey Kahne cuts a right front tire and he was having some brake issues they go to pit road. The Restart on lap 210 the 42 of Montoya leads but a few laps later Kasey Kahne would bounce off the wall in turn 2 and he goes to the garage. On the restart Greg Biffle, Kurt Busch and Juan Montoya battle for the lead but we would see more tire issues with the right front wit 239 laps to go Travis Kvapil in the Long John Silvers car would cut a tire. Only a few laps later with 237 laps to go Kyle Busch who sweep both races at Bristol in 2009 would cut a right front going into turn 1 and would eventually rebound well for the situation he was in. Regan Smith also cut a tire and Dale Jr was busted for speeding on pit road after he was running in the top 10.
The big wreck would come at lap 342 of 500 when Greg Biffle pinched Mark Martin into the wall on the 5 car would cut a tire collecting over a dozen drivers including, Marcos Ambrose, Brian Vickers, David Rgan, Juan Pablo Montoya, Robby Gordon and a few other drivers who would continue on with little damage. We restart with 142 laps to go and Kurt Busch is your leader when the caution falls with less than a 100 to go for rain showers. The race restarts with under a 100 to go as Brad Keselowski would lead with 89 to go but would be passed quickly by Kurt Busch and Jimmie Johnson would move into second. Kurt Busch would just continue to lead steadly over the 48 of Johnson. Sam Hornish Jr had another great run going but lost a cylinder ending his chance at a great finish. It seemed to look like Kurt Busch was going to be the most dominant car as he collected the most laps lead but would'nt get that sixth win. Scott Speed and Joey Logano both cut tires with just over 20 to go and with 18 to go the caution comes out for debris. During pit stops some drivers take two some take four, so on the restart with 10 laps to go its Greg Biffle, Matt Kenseth, Carl Edwards, Tony Stewart Kurt Busch and Jimmie Johnson. Johnson who was really good on short runs had the right moves to get to the lead and take it with 5 to go and score the win in the Food City 500 at Bristol his 50th win of his career and third of 2010.The series is going to Martinsville Speedway in Virginia next weekend and everyone knows how good the 48 is at that track. Bristol was the last race for the wing, the spoiler is back at Martinsville and the top 35 is now locked so if your in good, and drivers who had a bad day at Bristol and are out will have to qualify on time in Martinsville.
