NY Mets: Buy or Sell?
As we all know, the New York Mets have the funds to go out and get some great prospects, but do they really need to?
They have great starting pitching that just hasn't lived up to its potential. Johan Santana started out with a mediocre record of 8-7 and Pedro Martinez has an ERA of nearly seven.
However, Billy Wagner has been impressive with 20 saves out of 26 opportunities. If the Mets could get their starting pitching to pitch at the level—we will definitely be seeing them in October.
The Mets have a lethal offense that no pitcher in the league wants to face. First, you have Jose Reyes batting .300 with nine homers and still improving. He is the ideal lead-off batter with unbelievable speed and the ability to get on base with a .364 OBP.
Another weapon is Carlos Beltran. Even though he is only batting a mere .264 he has hit 14 homers and has driven in 63 RBI's. The Mets have a stacked starting lineup that can beat any team in the majors—if they just live up to their potential and concentrate on winning.
So the answer to the question of whether the Mets should be looking to buy or sell players is—they really should be selling.
They have enough talent on the team to make it to the show. However, they just haven't been performing lately, and it's frustrating to see the possibility of a really great team. The Mets need to raise the bar and win some games so they can still be contending in October.
