Justin Allgaier Wins First Nationwide Race @ Bristol

Dustin H.Mar 20, 2010

Justin Allgaier won his first Nascar Nationwide Series race at Bristol Motor Speedway on Saturday in a wild finish holding off his teammate Brad Keselowski in a close battle to the win. Keselowski started from pole after he was fastest in practice Friday. He took the pole Saturday morning in qualifying but he lost the lead on lap 1 to Joey Logano. Johnny Chapman was out on lap 8 the first start and park car. Logano would lead 22 laps and then give way to Kyle Busch who would take the lead on lap 23. Lap 31 saw the first caution with James Buescher and Brian Keselowski getting together. Lap 35 the restart Kyle Busch leads and would continue to put a gap on the field. Lap 80 Kasey Kahne would work his way to the lead and at lap 89 a big crash involving Steven Wallace, Colin Braun and Brian Scott all took a hard hit and this brought out the red flag. Scott Wimmer would be the leader on the restart but Kasey Kahne would eventually take the lead back at lap 115. On lap 125 another caution this time for Coleman Pressley, Trevor Bayne and James Buescher. Kasey Kahne had made contact with the six car earlier in the day and had damage and started overheating. Kyle Busch got into Kelly Bires on lap 146 and he spins causing a caution. Greg Biffle is the leader on the restart with another big crash coming at lap 185 involving Tony Raines and Shelby Howard, they also collected Kasey Kahne and Brendan Gaughn who were running in the top 5 for the race lead.

Now on the restart with a 101 laps to go caution comes out for debris, then Joe Nemechek would spins a few laps later Coleman Pressley and Mike Bliss tangle Pressley spins into the inside wall. Michael Annett and Ricky Stenhouse were also involved in a accident and with 34 laps to go John Wes Townley gets spun by Jason Keller collecting Josh Wise the usual bump and run at Bristol or bump and crash. With 27 laps to go Keselowski had pulled to a big lead when the caution came out setting up a 22 lap dash to the finish on the half mile. Justin Allgaier timed the restart just right and took the lead from Brad Keselowski and held him off to score his first win. This was a great race to the finish and im glad to see a Nationwide regular win a race in Nascar. Here is the top 10 from Bristol and Carl Edwards leads the points by 26 heading to Nashville April 3rd.
