Footballers Are Modern Day Slaves, Says Sepp Blatter! What Are You on About?!

The controversial and outspoken President of FIFA has done it again! He has sparked furious debate around the country, mainly in Manchester.

His line this time? "I think in football there's too much modern slavery in transferring players or buying players here and there, and putting them somewhere."

Well done Sepp!

Everyone who has been asked about this has condemned Blatter's statement. Everyone, that is, everyone apart from wantaway star Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo has a right to complain though, I mean he's only on £150,000 a week! How is he meant to put food on the table with a minimum wage salary like that! Blatter's right that is definitely slavery!

Well, the rest of us may call it honouring your contract.

If I earned that much a week I would just keep my head down and not say anything. If I became unhappy I would have a quiet word with Sir Alex and discuss the options.

In my view a player has no right to demand a move. The club holds the cards not the player, just like the employer holds the cards in every other job.

A player can, of course, express discontent to the manager, and then the manager can choose to let him go. The player signed a contract, and unless the manager sees fit to let him go, he should honour that contract.

This slavery comment is not the first time Sepp Blatter has been involved in controversy.

He has been accused of corruption inside FIFA, incurred the wrath of female players by saying they should wear tighter shorts, called Martin Taylor's tackle on Eduardo an "attack", and his "6+5 rule" didn't exactly go down smoothly.

Very few people trust Blatter as head of FIFA, and it worries me that he seems to have some vendetta against England, as does head of UEFA, Michel Platini.

This latest ridiculous statement could prove to be one of his last, as I can see it being not long before he is challenged as head of FIFA.
