Why Chelsea FC must go for Rooney and not Torres ?
Roman Abrahimovich has again grabbed the centre of attention after a somewhat unexpectedly forgettable performances by his lavishly paid Chelsea finally got a taste of how its like having Mourinho as their rival coach. However, Roman is far from given up. With the fortune he holds ..why would he ? But now he has finally turned his attention to a BIG Summer spending, and the first really eye-brow raising inference that the press makes of it is "Torres heading to Chelsea?"
On all counts the press finds it delightfully tempting to bring Torres to the limelight for a probable transfer away from Merseyside every alternate week for the past two years now, albeit with a plethora of suitors from Real Madrid to Barcelona, from Manchester United to Chelsea. Surely Torres must be delighted with all these rumours but only because of the fact that it speaks volumes of his achievements at Merseyside. He has acquired a legendary status at Liverpool and he loves it.

However, coming to the point, according to a recent press report, Roman Abrahimovic is planning to make a commitment of 100m GBP to his Summer kitty, whatever be Chelsea's achievement of the season, which sadly is only too bright for just another FA cup title and strongly competitive for a league title.
Looking back at the season, Chelsea could rather have been clear winners and in as strong a position they are in the FA cup but for one man, quite literally, Wayne Rooney.
Rooney has been a sensation of sorts this season and really pivotal in turning Manchester United dreams to reality. At least, after the sale of Ronaldo to Real, few would have thought that Manchester United could still be as dominant as they have been this season.
Compared to this, even when Torres was in phenomenal form, he had to be protected at times, by resting him in matches. So going by Chelsea's heavy purse why they are overlooking Rooney for Torres is baffling...
Being in superb form this season Rooney should be the first prefernce for Chelsea , Man City and the likes ..Moreover, Manchester United may win the Champions league and EPL this year, but that won't significantly bring down their 800m GBP + debt, so even they would be as weak to unputdownable offers as would Liverpool for Torres.
Being a football fan however, I would like Chelsea to empty their purse on Gonzalo Higuian (whom, reports suggest Madrid would sell this summer) or on Edin Dzeko from outside the premier league, both being young and bright prospects. Moreover buying either or both of them would enrich the Premier league and that would be better to watch than just a mere rearrangement of experienced players in the league. But if Roman is firm on hiring a Premier League player, it must be Rooney and not Torres..
