Why The Miami Hurricanes Will Surprise!
After years of failing to make the top 25, the Canes have really surprised a lot of people. They came of with big wins a against big teams like FSU. Georgia Tech and the mighty Sooners. They came out ranked 16th in the nation and no one has given the Canes crap since.
However, some people including my own brother, have Miami having a mediocre season next year. I refuse to believe that. First of all, our defense had a lot of stars. DE/DT Allen Bailey (see picture above) had an amazing season. He exploded into the NCAA with 5 sacks for -46 yards. He had a monster of a game against Oklahoma and hunted Landry Jones down like a crazed animal and forced a critical fumble and a critical forced fumble against Clemson that almost gave the Canes the game. He also had a very impressive day against Georgia Tech. He could end up becoming the next Warren Sapp, another Miami alumni star, and I would definitely not be surprised if he is a 1st rounder in the 2011 NFL Draft. Our defensive back squad silenced all the rumors about a "weak" Miami secondary, especially in the game vs FSU. Colin McCarthy was another stud. Though few know his name, he complied 30 tackles last year as well as one forced fumble. He has very good agility and can avoid blockers well.
Of course, all eyes were on emerging star QB Jacory Harris. Harris had a heck of a season with 3,352 yards and 24 touchdowns. I remember one part of the season when Jacory Harris was a serious Heisman contender. I remember when he was interviewed after his monster game against FSU that silenced all doubters. Here's the interview for all who missed out.
Harris: I'm gonna wear a pink suit to the ceremony, pimp cup and all.
LeBatard: You're gonna bring a goblet to the Heisman ceremony?
Harris: Yeah, I'll bring it.
LeBatard: How bout the fedora?
Harris: The padora?
LeBatard: The hat. The pimp's hat.
Harris: I don't know about that. I might want to show off my hairstyle at the time… I'm going through phase two.
LeBatard: Explain that.
Harris: You have stage one, when you start. Then stage two, where you have your little ugly stage. Then you have stage three, where you busting out of the cocoon, and you're ready for the braids, and all the different hairstyles.
LeBatard: Bustin' out of the cocoon like a beautiful afro butterfly?
Harris: Yeah, like an afro butterfly.
Hillarious. My younger brother knows pretty mutch everything about sports. Give a name and he will know who he is, what his stats are and wether it is even worth his time. He even knows who Sabby Piscatelli is!!!!! However when he said that quote "The Miami Hurricanes will have a 7-6 (Thats right 7 AND 6!!!!) season with losses to Pitt (Thats right Pitt!!!) NC, FSU, GT, OSU and in their bowl game, I had to confront him. I know that OSU looks like a hopeless case but consider this. The OSU Buckeyes offense does not exist. Yeah you can give me all that crap about Terrel Prior, but he is extremely overrated.I mean who losses to Purdue?! (Chuckles) The OSU HB, Brandon Saine is terrible and only complied 700 yards is terrible and the team doesn't have any WR's Infact there starting Wide Reciever has less than 600 yards. When you are playing a defense with Miami's calibber, none of those things can happen. The quote about "Pitt beating Miami" is just plain stupid. Ive been arguing with him about it for days. That is like saying Virginia is going to beat Alabama. The Pitt Panthers defense is horrendous and terrible and Dion Lewis is the only star on the team. It is one of the dumbest things I have heard in my life. Infact my final score for the Pitt/ Miami game: Miami:37, Pitt: 7
I think that the Canes will finally get the ACC Championship they have been hoping for this year and I think their only loss will be against North Carolina. They will make the Orange Bowl, and form there on I am not exactly sure what is going to happen. The Miami Hurricanes will finish #4 in the nation and will finally get the respect they deserve. The year after that, I think they will be National Champions. We should all expect great things from the Canes. The U is back.
